Background

The research goal of Charly Abi Ghanem's lab is to investigate the role of glia, more specifically oligodendrocytes, in normal development and aging, and in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD).

The lab focuses on elucidating changes in signaling pathways and cell interactions in response to various neurological diseases, particularly how risk factors such as aging, metabolic health and genetics contribute to these changes. There is an emphasis on sex differences, and the aim is to identify new therapeutic targets for diseases with white matter damage.
