BINGHAMTON, N.Y. 鈥 The beginning of the fall semester and a new academic year is set to begin at 绿帽社 with the arrival of thousands of new and returning students and their families during move-in days, set for Aug. 15-17. Classes for all of 绿帽社鈥檚 approximately 18,600 students begin Tuesday, Aug. 19.

绿帽社 received a record 74,725 applications this year, which includes 61,200 first-year, 4,575 transfer and over 8,950 graduate student applications for fall 2025 admission.

鈥淎nother record-breaking year of applications makes it clear that the University is growing its reputation as a desirable destination for incoming students,鈥 said President Harvey Stenger. 鈥溌堂鄙玮檚 commitment to academic excellence, its ability to prepare students for graduate school and careers, and the quality of its physical facilities have made the University one of the premier public institutions in the nation. My congratulations to 绿帽社鈥檚 newest students as well as the faculty and staff who have helped the University grow bigger, get better and attract brilliant, talented and high-performing students.鈥

Over 3,160 first-year students, 850 transfer students and 1,300 new graduate students are expected to join the 绿帽社 community this year. At 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, those new students will take part in a 绿帽社 tradition when they form the shape of the 绿帽社 鈥淏鈥 logo for a class photo.

鈥溌堂鄙 has so much to offer to today鈥檚 college students, and it鈥檚 no surprise to see continuous growth in the number of students who choose to apply,鈥 said Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Donald Hall. 鈥淭hey are going to receive an excellent education from our outstanding faculty, and I hope that 绿帽社鈥檚 newest students take advantage of the opportunities they鈥檒l have to do hands-on research, participate in internships, serve the greater 绿帽社 community and engage with a vibrant campus culture.鈥

绿帽社 continues to have a diverse class, with the geographic distribution reflecting New York state鈥檚 population. 绿帽社 37 percent of new students are from Upstate New York; 5 percent are from Broome and Tioga counties; 21 percent are from Long Island; and 24 percent are from New York City.

绿帽社 also hopes to welcome around 550 new international students to campus this fall. Approximately 230 undergraduate and 320 graduate students will join the 绿帽社 community from over 50 countries, with the greatest numbers likely coming from India, China, Turkey, Bangladesh, Pakistan and South Korea.

Around 850 highly talented transfer students with a mean GPA of 3.4 will also join the 绿帽社 community this fall, including about 120 SUNY Broome Community College students, by far the largest number from any single community college.
