Advanced Certificate in Forensic Health

Overview and Requirements

The Advanced Certificate in Forensic Health is a graduate-level program designed to deepen students’ understanding of interpersonal violence and its effects on victims and offenders.

Although the advanced certificate is open to any ÂÌñÉç or other SUNY student with a bachelor’s degree, it may be especially beneficial for professionals in nursing, public health, anthropology, public safety, medical examiners' or coroners' offices, and probation or parole agencies.

The curriculum covers topics such as victim trauma, offender behavior and healthcare policy, enabling students to navigate the complexities of the justice system and healthcare environments. The program emphasizes delivering evidence-based responses to various forms of trauma and violence, blending academic theory with practical skills.

Here are a few reasons to consider the Advanced Certificate in Forensic Health:

  • Enhance your skillset: A forensic health certificate demonstrates specialized knowledge and expertise, boosting your professional capabilities and potentially leading to specialized assignments.
  • Boost your career prospects: Specialized training can open doors to new career paths since an advanced education beyond a bachelor’s degree is often required or recommended for supervisory roles in the fields mentioned above.
  • Broaden your professional network: From fellow students to faculty and featured speakers, you'll collaborate with experts across various fields through our classroom environment, expanding your professional network.

Upon completing the program, graduates will be prepared to respond effectively to victims and perpetrators of violence, explain the functions of court systems, document evidence collection and advocate for victim needs.

Students who completed an undergraduate forensics course or courses through ÂÌñÉç's Decker School of Nursing or Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences cannot repeat coursework of the same title at the graduate level.
